What goes wrong with hats and curly hair
Most hats are cut for flat, straight hair. A shallow crown presses curls down, a tight band leaves a ring around your head, and a rough cotton or polyester interior drags across your curl pattern every time the hat shifts. Take it off and you're left with a flat top and a halo of frizz.
What to look for in the best hats for curly hair
Room at the crown. Depth comes first. The Soteria fedoras have a 6 in (15.2 cm) crown, and our open-top and ponytail styles take the crown out of the equation.

Hats for wavy hair
Waves are lighter and show a hat line sooner. A structured fedora keeps its shape above your hair instead of collapsing onto it, and the silk lining lets waves move rather than catch.
Hats for frizzy hair
A hat can't change the humidity, but what sits against your hair matters. Silk is smoother than a standard cotton or polyester lining, so it's the curly hair friendly choice on humid days.
Summer, sun and beach hats for curly hair
For beach days and long afternoons outside, a wide brim gives shade without a tight fit. The Soleil Classic has a 5 in (12.7 cm) crown and a 19.5 in (49.5 cm) brim. Wearing a pineapple or high bun? The Flow has a rear ponytail opening, and the Eclipse is open at the top with silk on the band.

Sizing
Fedoras, sun hats and the Sasha come in two sizes: Medium fits 56.5–58 cm (22.2–22.8 in) and Large fits 58.5–60 cm (23.0–23.6 in). Measure with your curls styled the way you wear them; between sizes, or wearing a lot of volume, choose Large. The Veloura caps and Eos are one adjustable size, and the Eclipse adjusts from 55–63 cm (21.7–24.8 in). Size exchanges are free.

Let your curls dry completely first. Set the hat at your front hairline and ease it back, rather than pulling it straight down over your hair. To take it off, lift it straight up by the brim, then shake out your roots with your fingertips.
